Updatin' in the rain

Somehow, a rain delay on the final homestand is fitting, right? The tireless grounds crew has done an unbelievably great job this year. But the Yankees don't have it nearly as rough as the Twins and Tigers, who will play a day-night doubleheader tomorrow in Motown. A meaningful doubleheader.

The champagne was fun. Those celebrations always are.

David Cone says the quality of champagne goes up a notch with each round. Last night the Yankees partied with bubbly that goes for about $20 a bottle. Not that much of it appeared to be ingested; most of it landed on bodies or on the carpeted floor.

The clinching celebrations are the rare times we get to show the players having spontaneous, unfiltered fun. (A.J. saying the biggest thing he's learned from Pettitte is "You're never too old to be dirty" was particularly memorable. So was talking to Teixeira in goggles.) I hope you enjoyed the Sunday postgame, if you saw it.

As for my football picks, I should never again pick against the Jets. Never ever. But because they play the Saints at the Superdome, I will. Went 2-1 last week and have missed on the Jets with stunning consistency. This week's picks: Jets, Giants, Cowboys over Broncos.

First pitch at 8:55 p.m. Enjoy Hochevar-Gaudin.

Kim, I just wanted to comment on your postgame coverage Sunday after the Yankees clinched. It was excellent. It was nice to see the interaction of the players and the celebration. In addition, I just want to give you a lot of credit for keeping up with this blog. It is insighful and fun to read. I hope you continue to blog in the future. After all that good news I do have something that is disappointing. Penn State LOST! Can't believe it, there goes the undefeated season.
Keep blogging,
Nick

Kim,
We love your coverage and that in no way a reflection on how hot we think you are. It is simply a reflection upon your superior baseball knowledge and in no way an indication of your good lucks.

Keep up the good looks, er, work.

Hi Kim i just wanted to let you know that you are such a positive inspiration to girls and women alike especially doing what you do in such a male dominated job. You really have shown that you know youe stuff and thats so awesome to me.
I always comment "man Kim has the best job in the world" i mean what woman would give up being in the locker room to do the post game report ? Getting to know the players, and be there through the good games and the horrible ones too.
Keep up all the great work especially with the crazy October playoff games ! Hopefully there will be more Champagne celebrations to come.

I agree with peanut82. You actually were my inspiration and I finally know the type of career I want to pursue in the future! I absolutely loved Sunday's postgame. Best postgame this entire season. I hope you enjoyed yourself that day, because we enjoyed watching you interview the players =]

To the women who wrote about ms. jones. She isnt a particularly nice person. My High school aged daughter had written her through both the Yankees and The YES network and didnt even get a response. Her teacher/school paper advisor had said he knew of 2 other students who wrote and never heard anything. Coincidence? no. If you read the book Confession of a She-Fan, The author had a very similar expereince with ms. jones as well. The kicker was she saw ms. jones walking around yankee stadium and approached her and asked if she could ask her a few questions. ms jones said she was busy and gave her a number for her alledged asst, written on a piece of paper (cant the YES network afford business cards?) When she called the number it was disconnected. She was with 3 other of her freind and 2 aduts so she had witnesses to this. My daughter enrolled in a really good College program now, there are many many good role models for women and many who will take time out of thier schedule to help others, kim jones is NOT one. if you dont believe me, check around or read the book I mentioned and you can see for yourself.

Hi Kim,
I love your work with the players on the field and
i have a question about the post-walk-off pie in the face, delivered by A J Burnett.

Why A J? Does no one else want the job? It looks like fun.
Anyway, thanks and let's have a really long post season.

Hi Kim,

If you run into Phil Hughes, could you ask him what is going on with his 'upper lip'?!! It's a little Hitleresque . . if Hitler did porn. The general concensus is that he lost a bet. .

There has to be a reason. . .I would hate to think it was because he thought it looked good!
Meaningless games. . and the mind wanders!

Thanks!!

Hi Kim!
The way Joba pitched last night, Joe should leave him off the
1st. round off playoffs. He didn't even seem to try to pitch
but was just throwing, maybe Posada was rushing him a
little to much. Giants over KC, Saints over Jets and Denver
over the boys.

Best baseball song ever made, Kim you've gotta hear Prince Fielder's song

Hi Kim,
I was wanting to watch the Batting Practice Today Show with Jeter, Rivera, Posada, and Pettitte. However, our tv isn't working and we have not gotten a replacement yet. Will the show be put on the internet anywhere?
Thanks!

Kim,

Thanks for the great coverage all year. There was a time when I was the type of fan who would turn off a broadcast in disgust. I don't do that anymore, and it's not because I'm not often disgusted. I've got to be honest, token female broadcasters in sports are downright annoying, it's not a weather report. I don't want Kelly Ripa anywhere near a locker room, nor Mr. Philbin. What you've done @ Yes can't have been easy. Guess what, it looks easy. I've never seen Alex Rodriguez so "uncontrived", champagne or not ;).

You have truly earned the respect of the fans by earning the respect of the players. Or is it the other way around? Sure YES is for fans, it's a conduit for the Yankees too; it's a delicate line you walk. They'd see right through you if you didn't ask what they're thinking, both sides of the coin. At the same time, knowing the kind of guy Mariano is, it says a lot in all fronts of Yankeeland that he had champagne for you.

Those of you who wish to tear down the women you purport to admire... THIS IS NEW YORK MEDIA. Take a number. Three confirmed letters fallen on deaf ears? You're deafening. You pay the college program to indulge you. Or, do what causes the subject of your admiration to be remarkable. Tear her down if she can't put you in the spotlight. Enjoy your crocodile tears. Stick to the school bus report, I suspect you'll be caught out in the rain; make sure you're able to maintain that eye makeup.

Again Kim, genuinely great stuff all year. Keep doing what you're doing. Celebrity broadcasters can always stand out or seem exceptional, but you truly make YES coverage second to none. You manage to keep a really fickle audience glued to the television long after the game is decided.

talen1989 I don't know what you expect to accomplish by your negative posts. Sounds like you might need to get a life.

Kim I always enjoy your reporting, interviews or appearances on WFAN. Keep up the great work. You have earned the respect of the players and viewers.

Chris
