(Keith) Urban renewal works for Yankees
Just a quick check-in tonight from Baltimore. Definitely a more upbeat mood today and more country music. Loud country music. The Yankees were jamming to Keith Urban yesterday and won, so they listened to more Keith Urban today. Much to the dismay of some players. (The music, not the winning.)
How about Evan Longoria? Wow, another home run today. He is the future face of the game, maybe sooner than we think.
If Yankees fans get to know Cervelli, they’ll like him. He has a confidence and a friendly air about him. Like he expects himself to play well but will smile while he tells you about it.
The coaching staff has thought about dropping Teixeira in the order but wants to give him a chance in the No. 3 spot with Alex hitting behind him. If time spent in the batting cage with Kevin Long is any indication – and you’ve got to think it is – Teixeira is working hard to get it right.
Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. We’ll have a bunch of Mother’s Day wishes from players that will appear during tomorrow’s coverage. And we have a Cody Ransom feature for the batting practice show that is worth seeing. At least we think so.
Just ate PB&J with a yogurt. Trying to be healthy. Allergies are a killer here. Kay had two burgers, strawberries and grapes, and a plate of peanut butter, which he says he ate with a spoon. He says he’s on neither the Atkins nor South Beach diet. Just cutting out carbs. How does anyone live without carbs?
saw Keith Urban at the Mohegan Sun last night – awesome show! LBT opened up – they are great as well – who is LBT you ask? here’s a hint, they’re like the country version of Fleetwood Mac –

Thinking they need to change the music in the clubhouse. If the Yanks can come back and win this game, I will go out and buy a Keith Urban CD and listen too!
no offense to country music fans.
Well Kim, whatever they played before the game, it did NOT work. Maybe they should have played Taylor Swift instead! So now that they are down 11-1, you need to entertain us for the next 2 hours. Come on…..let’s get going! lol I hope you are good at karaoke! lol
Was PB&J with grape jelly?,
Maybe Keith Urban could be an addition to the bullpen
Love your blog, Kim. I’ve been a Yankees fan since 1974, when I was 12 years old and had my picture taken with Elston Howard.
Any chance we could have Johnny Damon in every spot in the lineup and CC starting every night? If only….
>> Maybe Keith Urban could be an addition to the bullpen
He’d be better than Marte and Veras.
HEY KIM – UNFORTUNATELY MISSED THE PRE, POST AND THE GAME ITSELF TODAY – I WAS JUST CHECKING OUT THE BOX SCORES AND WATCHING SOME OF THE REWIND. WHERE’S ALL THE A-ROD LOVE TODAY. I WAS SHOCKED WE LOST. ARODS BACK. WHERE’S THE FAIRY TALE MICHAEL KAY WAS TALKING ABOUT. I LOVE KEITH URBAN BUT I REALLY THINK YESTERDAY HAD TO DO WITH CC FINALLY PITCHING LIKE WE’RE PAYING HIM TO PITCH. NOT THE MUSIC AND CERTAINLY NOT A-RODS RETURN.

P.S. ALLERGIES HERE ( NY) BAD TOO !!!!
I Love Keith Urban! I’m listening to “Love Somebody Like You” on the radio as we speak! I’m ecstatic to read that the Yankees are listening to country, its my favorite đŸ™‚
Not pleased with the game today. We need some sort of bigger spark. I like the Taylor Swift suggestion. They should listen to “Love Story” and then create a love story out on the field for us! lol. Hope we get that spark soon! I’m always cheering the guys on no matter what the score is. Keep up the awesome blogging, Kim!
Don’t know how Kay does the no carbs thing; I don’t think I’d be able to do that!

Hats, A-Rod has only been back two days. He is coming off surgery and rehab. Give the guy a break. Great blogs Kim. Any more chat sessions coming up?
LIGHTNING ROD – MY POINT WAS THAT HE WAS A SAVIOR AFTER ONE AT BAT FRIDAY. HELL – ALL DAY ON TALK RADIO (MICHAEL KAY) THE SEASON WAS SAVED BECAUSE HE WAS COMING BACK. WE’RE IN A HOLE BECAUSE OF PITCHING AND IT’S GOING TO GET WORSE TILL JORGE COMES BACK. THE MEDIA IS TOO BUSY FALLING ALL OVER A-ROD TO REALIZE THAT. GET WELL SOON JORGE!!!

Kim, I didn’t understand your Evan Longoria as the face of baseball remark on TV a few days ago and I don’t understand it here.
Why is it the media feels the need to annoint a “face of baseball” instead of just letting it happen? A year ago, everyone was telling us how David Wright was going to be the new face of baseball. Before that, Grady Sizemore was going to be the new face of baseball.
Same with the Yankees. Seven years ago, the media trumpted Giambi as the new “face of the Yankees.” Then a few years later, it was A-Rod. Yet here we are, 14 years later, and the face of the Yankees is still one Derek Jeter.
Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. I wish the media would stop trying to force things down our throats and just let them happen.
I love Keith Urban!
Kim, I had heard that the Yanks were playing country music, but I didn’t know what artist it was. Thanks for the info!
I’ve really been enjoying your blog, so I added your blog link to my own Yankee/Mets blog, Subway Squawkers. Take care.

My musings on the game…
Johnny Damon has shown he still has a valuable bat, but he’s a liability in left field. I think the Yanks might need another outfielder…so why not get Austin Jackson up here and get him used to the bigs? Damon is going to need some days off soon because he can’t keep playing the outfield without time off. And Jackson can be used to pinch run AND/OR play left field OR Center. Send Gardner down, because Jackson is the future center fielder…at least that is what it looks like now.
Also, it looks like having ARod in the lineup at least gives the Yanks a look of more confidence. Let’s face it…he’s a threat whenever he comes up, and his defense improves what they had.
Teixiera needs to relax. I think most of his hitting problems are coming because he feels he has to live up to that big contract NOW…especially because the Yanks are losing a lot. He needs to get that ease in his swing back. You can see him clenching his teeth when he’s in the batter’s box…that’s not good for any hitter. Maybe move him to the 5 or 6 hole and move Cano up to 4. Keep Matsui at 5 and that might take some pressure off of Tex.
I should be the manager of the Yankees.
Thank you.
I am a genius.
Hey Kim…thanks for the Kay menu update. Tell him…MORE CHICKEN instead of Red Meat, and to take a dose of Metemucil? every morning to get more fiber.Right about game time the Metemucil ? should start working good and us fans can get a laugh as Kay has to excuse himself in the middle of an inning.
Just kidding….I like Michael. But he should get away from the red meat.
